Car's in trouble Glow Plug Light Flashing - Brakes all OK so some sort of fault

 

Whats the most cost effective way of getting the error code and then diagnosing the problem

 

Clearly I could but VAG-COM but its

Brakes may be OK but check that (both) brake light switches are working before you do anything else.

I would have said that for a small garage the cost of VAG-COM is a bargin as it works on VW, Audi, Skoda and SEAT cars. They would only have to use it 5 times to be quids in.

I suspect its not the brake lights as the glow plug light only comes on when the engine is hot; as soon as its hits 90 degress then the fault light appears, which is why I need the diagnostics

Thanks for the offer Graham; the cars groing in tommorrow anyway as the warranty company MotorPlan (after 4 weeks of hassle) has finally decided to pay for a new condenser for the A/C so i'll let the garage have a look; any problems should get fixed under warranty <_<

An the problem was, believe it or not, the stop tail bulb fitted the wrong way around.
